Hail, thou star of Sudan
The slave called the fortunate
Ahead of your horrific ordeal
Born in a southern city of Sudan
You freely lived with your siblings
Prior to your dreadful kidnap
Just at nine years you were plucked
Forcibly abducted from your sacred land
And thus, started your stations of the cross
Passing from one master to the other
You were sold five times in your road to exile
But you followed the star to your new home
And throughout your dangerous journey
You kept quiet listening to the silent voice
That resounded at every wake of the moon
Even beyond the Mediterranean Sea
You neither forgot your ancestral land
Nor the vigilance learnt from leopards
In slavery you were always free in spirit
Surpassing your fear as a brave eagle
Without ever distancing yourself from God
In your country of exile everything became new
As the moon and the stars of your childhood
Made you rediscover the true image of God
And henceforth, you have only but one desire
To know better this new benevolent master
And to freely show him your true homage
And by the steadfastness of this new master
You regained definitively your stolen freedom
And decided never to give it again to any human
And thus, started your newfound identity
As the free spouse of your saviour Jesus
A true Canossian Daughter of Charity
In your life as a religious you gave God everything
Through your spirit of service and prayerfulness
Treating every visitor as you would treat an Angel
And loved by all, you always told those around you
To be always nice and love earnestly Christ Jesus
Praying and letting the world know of God’s grace
Henceforth, you are now our beautiful divine star
Saint Bahkita, the beloved of a free and lovely God
The true advocate of slaves of circumstances
